The Magical Forest Within

Those who know me and my work will recognize this image as a transmutation of a paper sculpture I made from a Habitat carrier bag called 'The Magical Forest Within'.  The original object has been photographed and Photoshopped into a variety of guises, mainly relating to the seasons of the year.

Like many other people I've always loved trees, and as I grow older I come to appreciate them more and more.  Increasingly now I enjoy Winter trees, their stark beauty, architectural forms and  amazing variety of subtle hued bark.  Christmas seems a particularly poignant time for trees for obvious reasons and yet I can understand the urge to bring something green inside during the dark time of the year.

Today I went walking in the woods at Hardcastle Crags whilst all around the snow was silently performing its incomparable transformation act.

The course costs £50 for the day including all materials.  Numbers are limited and a deposit of £25 is required to reserve your place.  To book, send your name, address, phone number and email, along with a cheque made payable to A Rogers to: Woodcut Course, Brooklyn Studios, Unit 3, 38 Hangingroyd Lane, Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire HX7 8LR.

Winter Open Studios

Don't forget, its Open Studios again in Hebden Bridge this coming weekend.  All the main studio groups are participating and of course that includes Brooklyn Studios where I'm based.

Anyone who is in the Hebden Bridge area over the weekend is very welcome to come and visit me in my space and I will be there both days.  I'm exhibiting a varied selection from the different strands of my work with an emphasis on woodcuts and hand made books.

Open Studios is a great opportunity to talk to artists about their work, see whats going on in the gallery and partake of some festive cheer so hope to see you there!

Welcome to Tumbling Hills

This is how I imagine  the map of Hebden Bridge should look on a frosty November morning, with icy mist wraiths creeping down the valleys.  I like the idea of an interactive map that changes colour depending on the temperature outside.
